Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 August 2026

Watch Hoard ("Watch Hoard", "we", "us") is an app for tracking the TV shows and movies you watch. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the app you agree to this policy.

In short: we only collect what we need to run your account and sync your watch data across devices. We do not sell your data, and we currently use no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. You can delete your account and all your data at any time from inside the app.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Watch Hoard is operated independently. For any privacy question or request you can reach us at watchhoard@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

We only collect information that is necessary to provide the service:

CategoryExamplesWhy
Account information Email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), display name, and an optional profile avatar you upload. To create and secure your account and let you sign in across devices.
Your content & activity Shows and movies you track, watch history and progress, ratings, reviews and comments, custom lists, badges, and who you follow. This is the core function of the app — tracking what you watch and syncing it.
Imported data If you choose to import your watch history from another service, the export file you upload, which we match to titles using public database IDs. Only processed when you actively start an import. You control whether to do this.
Push notification token If you turn on new-episode alerts, the anonymous push token your device is assigned by Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) via Expo's push service. To deliver the notifications you asked for. It identifies the app install, not you personally, and is deleted when you turn alerts off or delete your account.
Technical data Standard server logs (e.g. IP address and request time) generated by our hosting and backend providers. Security, abuse prevention, and keeping the service reliable.

We do not knowingly collect precise location, contacts, health data, or any special categories of personal data.

3. How we use your information

Legal bases (GDPR): performing our contract with you (running your account), your consent (optional features such as import and social sharing), and our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe and functional.

4. Service providers we use

We rely on a small number of trusted providers ("sub-processors") to run the app. We share only the data needed for each to do its job:

ProviderPurposeData location
SupabaseAuthentication, database, and file storage (avatars)European Union (eu-west-1)
ResendSending transactional emails (confirmation, password reset)Processes your email address only
CloudflareWebsite hosting and content deliveryGlobal CDN
The Movie Database (TMDB)Show/movie metadata, artwork and searchWe fetch public metadata from TMDB; this product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and ExpoDelivering push notifications, only if you enable themReceives your device's push token and the notification content. No push token is created if you leave notifications off.
GIPHYThe optional GIF picker in reviews and commentsOnly contacted while you have the GIF picker open or a GIF is displayed. GIPHY receives your IP address and your search term; results are filtered to a PG-13 rating.

The app also fetches public ratings from third-party sources (for example IMDb) when you open a title. Those requests reveal your IP address to the provider and nothing else about you.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising. Information is only shared:

6. Data retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account inside the app. Deleting your account removes your profile and associated watch data from our systems. You may also email watchhoard@gmail.com to request deletion. Backups and provider logs may retain residual copies for a limited period before being overwritten.

7. Security

All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Passwords are never stored in plain text. Access to your data is protected at the database level (row-level security) so that you can only access your own records. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

8. Children

Watch Hoard is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Most of this can be done directly in the app; for anything else, contact watchhoard@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. International transfers

Your data is primarily stored in the European Union. Some providers may process data in other countries; where that happens, appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) are relied upon.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
